Catalog of Sir Walter Scott Correspondence

Good morning, Library of Scotland! What do you have for us today? Why, it's the Millgate Union Catalogue of Sir Walter Scott Correspondence, a database cataloging the locations of the nearly 14,000 letters written to or from Sir Walter Scott, including the nearly 10,000 letters held by the National Library of Scotland.

The database is available from http://www.nls.uk/catalogues/resources/scott/index.html . Here you can search by keyword, type of correspondence, whether the letter is to or from, and a year range. Note that you cannot search the entire text of letters, but you can search for opening words, for example, as well as notes, correspondence, etc.

A search for "Ivanhoe" on opening words found one result. The search result includes who the letter was to (or from), the reference number, date, and document location. You have the option to view all the records for the correspondent listed, or you can view the full record, which includes the opening words of the letter, the source document, and the notes.
