New Newsreel Database

Can't get enough of newsreels and cinemagazine stories published in the UK between 1910 and 1979? Of course you can't. That's why you need the British Universities Newsreel Database at http://www.bufvc.ac.uk/newsreels . This site contains 160,000 records of British cinema newsreel production. It's also linked to the Pathe newsreels online, written up in ResearchBuzz last November ( http://www.researchbuzz.com/news/2002/nov14nov2002.shtml#britishpathe )

Here's how to search the site. You don't have to register, but you do have to login, providing your name and e-mail address. Once you've done that, you can search several different subset collections by keyword, and limit your results by date range. You may also limit your results to those which have film clips or digitized documents associated with them.

A search for "Beatles" found 36 results. The search summary contains the date of the film release and a link to the full record, in addition to the newsreel type and issue number, keywords, documents (if any) and a description. The full record contains a very extensive description, technical and film notes, and a link to any available digitized documents.
