The Wisconsin Name Index

If you're researching into Wisconsin genealogy or history, you'll appreciate the Wisconsin Name Index at http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/wni/ . This site lets you search through over 100,000 obituaries, personal sketches, and biographies of Wisconsin people.

The front page allows you to do a keyword search by first and last name. (An advanced search allows you to further narrow your search by maiden name, location, source type, etc.) A search for the last name "Beaumont" found 16 results. (I originally searched for baseball player Ginger Beaumont and got no results.)

Search results include name, location, title of source, source type, author, notes, and whether or not there's a portrait with the writeup. The writeup is not included online; you'll have to purchase that. For out-of-state, non-members of the Wisconsin Historical Society, records cost $15.
