June 26, 2003HotBot Jumps on the Toolbar BandwagonHotBot announced on June 24 that they're offering their own toolbar, a "HotBot Quick-Search Deskbar" that's based on the open source "Dave's Deskbar." It's available for download at http://www.hotbot.com/tools/. The biggest thing about this deskbar is that while it looks like it's Windows-only, it DOESN'T REQUIRE IE. Hooray! What it does is sit in your task bar. You enter a search and it pops up a window in your primary browser with a page of Hotbot results (sponsored links come first.) There are also some "ready-reference" type searches that are available including dictionary and weather. Typing wug 90210, for example, gets you the Weather Underground page for Beverly Hills. If you'd like to get back to the source, check out Dave's Deskbar itself at http://notesbydave.com/toolbar/doc.htm. Like the HotBot Deskbar, it does not require IE. Posted to Search Engines-HotBot
