June 10, 2003Sibley Guide to Birds OnlineBirds birds birds birds birds. If you're into birds check out the the online Sibley Guide to Birds at http://www.sibleyguidetobirds.com. This is a paid service but there are some things you can do for free. You can find birds several different ways. You can search for birds by characteristic, specifying group, size, and region (you can also usually search by color but that's being updated.) You can also choose a state/metro area and get a list of birds in that area. You may not view the page of information on individual birds, however, unless you're a subscriber. If you ARE a subscriber, here's what an individual bird page contains: a picture of the bird, a map of coverage in North and a little bit of South America, a thorough description of the bird, audio (in three different formats), and several different flight images. You have the option to save notes about each individual birds as well as compare birds. Subscription is currently offered at a special rate of $19.95 a year. After the special, the rate will be $29.95 a year. Posted to Science-Ornithology
