State Archives of New Jersey Cataloged Holdings

The New Jersey State Archives now has a "cataloged holdings" page at http://www.njarchives.org/links/catalog.html. This page offers access to almost 200 pre-established catalog searches. Categories listed on this page include Genealogical Holdings, State Government Records, and Federal Government Records.

Click on a category and you'll get a list of sub-categories. For example, the non-governmental records page has categories for railroad companies and east and west Jersey proprietors, among other things. Choose a sub-category and you'll get a list of holdings for that category, including series name, control number, format, and how it's arranged. Occasionally there are notes.

Most of the information is for offline holdings, but there are some online resources. For example, there is a searchable database of New Jersey place names and a map of historical county information.
