July 21, 2003Pet Travel Offers Worldwide Database of Pet AccommodationsIf you want to take Fluffy to Fiji or Rover to Reykjavik, be sure to check out Pet Travel first. Pet Travel ( http://www.pettravel.com/ ) offers information about over 16,000 pet-friendly accommodations in over 100 countries. The front page is pretty crowded, but what you want it on the upper right part of the page. There a search engine will allow you to specify a city, state, or country for your search. A search for "Washington DC" led me to a page with weather information about Washington DC and a link to search for accommodations. (Why not go directly to the accommodations?) The accommodations page had two matches. The summary page included the name of the accommodation, city and state, category, and price. Now, here's the weird thing. One of the results -- the Swiss Inn Lodging Apartments -- has a "supplier information" page which includes things like e-mail contact, acceptable pets, guest amenities, and pet policy. But the other result -- The Westin Embassy Row Washington D.C. -- took me straight to a reservations page. So I can't guarantee if you'll get a page of information or a reservations page when you click on the name of a hotel. In addition to accommodations information, this site also has a number of articles about traveling with your pet, a brief page of links, and a place to register your pet-related business.
