July 14, 2003Random Google Searching With BananaslugRandom searching fans will enjoy the random weirdness culled from Google API application Bananaslug (http://www.bananaslug.com/). This application allows you to enter a search term, and then choose from a variety of vocabularies which will add a random word to your site. Vocabularies include proper names, jargon words, names of cities, and themes from Shakespeare. Once you've entered a query word and a vocabulary, Bananaslug will grab a random word from that vocabulary, run a Google search on it and your query word, and give you the first ten results. At the bottom of the page you'll be able to see what the random word was and how many results there are total. If Bananaslug has already used up its key-allotted 1000 searches for the day, you'll get an error message and the opportunity to use your own key. Bananaslug also offers a plain Google.com search link for your query word and a random word, in case you don't have your own Google API key. Posted to Search Engines-Google
