Canadian Classical Music at New Site

The Canadian Music Centre has released a site containing information on classical composers of Canada. It's available at http://www.musiccentre.ca/.

There's a variety of information on the front page, including composer and music news. There are also two finding aids. With "Find a Composer," visitors can browse an alphabetical list of composers, from John Abram to Rui Shi Zhuo. Information on composers includes a biography and sometimes a picture. Click on the "Sample Works" tab for audio samples (MP3) and score samples (PDF.) Not all musicians had samples available.

You can also search for scores here. Available search criteria includes title of work, keyword, name of composer, duration, and samples available. A search for a 5-10 minute work with audio samples available found 56 results. The result list includes name of the work, catalogue information, duration, samples, and any notes.

Is that all there is to this site? Oh no no no. There's a huge link list (not much in the line of annotation, though) several discussion forums, and an event calendar. Worth a visit.
