Films From India

The Films Division of India has put up 700 films on its Web site at http://www.filmsdivision.org/home.htm . If you've got Real or Windows Media Player and a half-decent connection, you can watch some films. I found this site worked best with Internet Explorer.

From the home page you'll have find several ways to browse films. (Click on the megaphone on the upper-right part of the page to mute the music; otherwise you won't be able to hear the movies!) You can browse the movies by title, from A B See to Zari, or browse by year, director, or category. You can also search by keyword.

I chose to check out the Nature and Environment section. Two records appeared, listing the title, director name, length, and year. There are also links to view the film in Real or Windows Media, in low or high bandwidth. Click on a film-viewing link and you'll get a popup window which will play the movie.

I saw a variety of films here, from documentary type things to kid's films to what I can only describe as "mood" pieces. A lot of the films I watched were in English (though not all of them had narration) and most of them had really good music.
