August 18, 2003General Motors Creates Photo SourceGeneral Motors has teamed up with Getty Images to make an image archive and photo store at http://www.gmphotostore.com . The site currently contains a thousand images. Though the site is primarily intended as a store, the photos are large enough and the annotation interesting enough to make it a nice browse for researchers. From the front page of the site you'll have the option to have the option to browse the contents of several brands -- GMC, Pontiac, Cadillac, etc. Some categories (Hummer) were more sparse than others (Chevrolet.) Choose a category and you'll get a list of thumbnails and "sub-categories" to browse through (Chevrolet, for example, had everything from Astro to Panel Trucks to Semi Tractors to Vans.) Click on an item and you'll get a larger version of the picture -- most items are photographs but there are some "artist's renderings" of cars. Pictures have brief annotations and the option to purchase copies of the photographs or mail the page to a friend. I saw one photograph from 1936, but at the same time there are Hummer photographs from 2003. Photographs vary from plain car shots to posed shots with human models. I had a lot of fun browsing this site. Posted to Business-Transportation-Auto | TrackBack
