Illinois Makes Public Domain Land Tract Sales Database Available

The state of Illinois now has a database of public domain land tract sales available at http://www.sos.state.il.us/departments/archives/data_lan.html. This database contains information about around 550,000 land sales from the 54,740 square miles of the public domain sold within Illinois.

The database is searchable by name of purchaser and by legal description. A search for wyatt (you don't have to enter more than the first two letters of the purchaser's surname but you can enter the full name) found 143 results. The results list includes the name of the purchaser, legal description, section, township, date purchased, and county.

Click on the name on the purchaser and you'll get a little additional information, including the number of acres sold, the price, total price, and volume and page where a record
of this sale can be found. Be sure to review the "Abbreviations used in the Illinois Public Domain Land Tract Sales Database" page and check out how to get original copies of the land sale records.
