Seattle Times Offers Free Archives to 1990

The Seattle Times has expanded its free newspaper archives back to 1990. Using the archive does require registration, but searching and viewing stories is free.

You'll need to register at the Seattle Times, which you can do at http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/register/Register.pl . Registration will require your name, zip code, year of birth, and household income. Once you're registered you can visit the archives at http://archives.seattletimes.nwsource.com/web/index.html .

The archives allow you to search by keyword. On top of that, you can also search by section or by date (a few customized ranges or you can specify your own date range going back to 1990.) You can sort your results by date or relevance and get up to 50 results per page. If you don't want to browse you can also browse by individual newspaper date.

An all-dates search for "Pearl Jam" found over 1000 results. Results include title, date, and an excerpt from the article. Click on the title for the entire article.
