September 01, 2003Texas Puts Land Grant Database OnlineThe state of Texas has put its land grant database online. It's available at http://www.glo.state.tx.us/archives/landgrant.html . From this page you can search the database, Texas' map collection, or get more information on genealogy research from the state of Texas. The land grand database has over 420,000 records and is searchable by several variables including county, Original Grantee, Title Date, and Patent Date. A search for "Kelton" under original grantee found 52 results (including names like Skelton.) Result list includes county, abstract number, district class, file number, grantee, and patentee. Click on the abstract number and you'll get a single page with a form with space for additional information including patent number, volume, and certificate, as well as number of acres and remarks. The forms I saw were not completely filled. Posted to US-Texas | TrackBack
