The Domain Purity Test

You've probably seen those "purity test" sites before, where they ask you a bunch of weird questions related to a certain topic and then tell you how "pure" you are about something. Well, Google has its own purity test and it's based on whether your URLs are filtered by its SafeSearch mechanism or not. Thus, the Domain Purity Test.

Enter your domain here (Don't use quotes, and don't use the prefix (say Amazon.com instead of www.Amazon.com))

Please insert your Google API key here

(This hack can use over 100 "lookups" per use, and I only get 1000 lookups per day with my Google API key. Please use your own key with this application. They're free, and you can get one at http://www.google.com/apis/).

This hack runs a search for the URLs in your domain and assembles the results (or the first fifty URLs, whichever comes first) into an array. It then searches for each of the URLs in the array with the SafeSearch filter turned ON. If an URL doesn't appear with the SafeSearch filter turned on, it's booted into the "Naughty" array. If it does appear, it's put into the "Good" array.

(Since this can run up to fifty URL checks, it'll take a couple minutes to run. You won't get an instant result unless you run domain search that's a stop word (sex.com) or the API key has run out and you're not using your own.) At the end of the search you'll get an estimate of how "pure" your site is, according to Google's SafeSearch, and a clickable list of the URLs in the naughty array if the number of URLs in the naughty array is less than ten.)

Disclaimer: This is for entertainment and to get a sense of where your site might be bumping into Google's SafeSearch filter. Automated filters are not perfect, not even Google's. A naughty-meter is a subjective thing and everyone's are different. Do not make assumptions about the veracity of a domain from a goofy little hack I wrote. Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball. Remember, this tests only the first 50 urls.

Have fun!
