September 24, 2003Yahoo Adds New Shopping EngineYahoo has announced a new product search engine which has been integrated into Yahoo Shopping and which includes both items from Yahoo Shopping, direct feeds into the engines, and "merchants and products identified through advanced crawling capabilities." You don't have to go to Yahoo Shopping to find this search. Do a search on Yahoo, and you'll notice that there's a new results tab -- one for Products. Click on that and you'll get matches (if any) for the item you searched. Since autumn is here I decided to search for a cardigan. Eegad. I got over 16,000 results in over 970 stores. On the result page the actually item results are on the left while text ads (which look very much like Google text ads) are on the right. Some of the items have pictures, some don't. Items have brief descriptions and then linsk to more items from that store (if any.) You can also re-sort your search by lowest price or highest price, and narrow down your search by price. I narrowed down my search to items between $20 and $30. I found over 2,000 results with that search. This time most of them had pictures and a few of the stores listed had ratings.
