Blogrunner Launches "Portal" Of Weblog Resources

I hate the word portal; that's why I put it in quotes. It reminds me of the bad old days when you couldn't visit a search engine without getting the latest baseball scores and the weather in Frying Pan Landing.

But just because I don't like the word portal doesn't mean I don't like Blogrunner, the resource; Blogrunner ( http://www.blogrunner.com ) is a combination of most popular lists, directory, and weblog entry search engine. I wish there was a little more information on how the most popular lists are generated.

The front page contains the top news stories of the day, stories with a brief summary and links to Webloggers who are pointing to that story. The stories are divided into several categories, including Top Stories, Top Weblog Entries, and national and international headlines.

Over on the right, you'll see links to Buzz (topics which are currently hot in the Weblog community; some of them are too general to be of immediate interest (Iraq) while some are more specific (Comment Spaham). Below that there are extended listings for the most popular articles and weblog posts, and listings for the most popular books and the most popular authors/reporters/commentators. If you'll look at the top of the front page you'll also see that you can do an entry search by keyword. Clicking on Directory takes you to another search form, this time for weblog-related resources.

Like I said, there's a lot to see here, but I'd like more information on how these sites are found and arranged like this. Just so I know how the list ends up the way it is.
