October 27, 2003CAMEO Upgrades Its Materials EnclycopediaCAMEO, the Conservation and Art Materials Encyclopedia Online, has announced the release of a new upgraded version available at http://www.mfa.org/cameo . CAMEO contains information on over 10,000 historical and contemporary materials used in the conservation, preservation, and production of artistic, architectural, and archaeological materials. The front page gives you a simple keyword search box (an advanced search allows you to search for description, boiling point, melting point, molecular weight, and other factors.) A search for "paper" found 263 results, from Abrasive to Zellner's paper. Search listings include the name of the item and an excerpt from the description. Click on the name of the item and you'll get a fuller description, synonyms, and materials properties (not available for all items) . Look on the right of the listings and you'll see tabs for images (not all items have images) and authority (bibliography related to the listed material; not always available.)
