October 30, 2003Historic Fashion Collection from Cornell OnlineWoo, you GO Cornell. The Cornell University Costume and Textile Collection now has an online database of over 5,000 records online at http://costume.cornell.edu:8080/ . Before you search the collection, you can also browse their online galleries, featuring many samples of the collection and a lot of annotation. When you're ready to search, you'll find that you can search by description, designer, donor date, country of origin, time span, and more. You can also specify that the records you find must have pictures included. A search for the object type of "head covering" found 372 results. Results were in a table and included item number, date, object type, thorough description, and country of origin. When I limited my results to those with photos, I got 26 results. Click on the result number and you'll get additional information on the item, including additional photos. There may be a couple of miscategorized items; I was wondering what the "Sheer black silk stockings with back seam and reinforced heels and toes" were doing filed under head coverings. Very good item descriptions, good photographs for the most part. Posted to Culture-Clothing
