Living History and Outdoor Museum Sites

If you're the type who likes a little fresh air with your history, check out Step Into History at http://www.stepintohistory.com/ . The site contains over 550 places across the United States which present living history or outdoor museums.

The state index is at the bottom of the front page, but there's also a site index available which lists from Alaska's Alaskaland to Wyoming's Trail Town & the Museum of the Old West. I like the state index better. Click on a state (I chose Idaho.) The top of the state page gives you an outline of the state and a TOC of sites. Site listings on the page include the name of the site, the general location, address, and contact phone number.

To the right of each site name is a sentence which says "Click here for hours, admission fees, details of what's there, local lodging, local information & nearby things to do" with the "here" hyperlinked. Gentle suggestion to the Web wrangler -- please make the location title clickable as well. Anyway, each location has a detail page. The detail page includes hours (and months of the year open), admission fees, on-site features and amenities, and nearby places to stay.
