December 02, 2003Database of Child Labor LawsThe University of Iowa Center for Human Rights has started the Child Labor Legislative Database, which is now available at http://www.childlaborlaws.org/projects/database/ . The site contains the searchable child labor-specific text of laws from countries worldwide. There are two big elements to the search: country (you may search all countries or a selection of about a dozen countries from Cambodia to the US) or category. Categories include Workplace Conditions, Penalties, and Children and Military Activities and have several checkbox subcategories.) Search results include the law name/description ( Law on Immigration, Chapter V, Penalties, Articles 29 to 34 ), one-sentence description, citation (if available), country, and type of law. Click on the law name/description for the text of the law and a detail box at the bottom that includes the date it was enacted and entered into force, an online source of the law, and PDFs of original language and English-language versions.
