State of Maine Now Offering Online Reference Services

The Maine State Library Reference Services department is now offering live chat daily, Monday through Friday, from 9 to 11 AM. You can access this live chat service at http://www.maine.gov/msl/services/ask.htm .

It looks like the reference service will require you to use IE, but it doesn't appear that there are other restrictions like you have to be a state resident or have to have a library card with a state system to participate. If there is no reference librarian available to help you, you'll be directed to an e-mail form. As far as e-mails are concerned, "Requests are read and responses sent as soon as possible during regular business hours."
