January 27, 2004A Caricature Collection from the SmithsonianIf you're interested in cartoons and caricatures, you'll like this collection. The Smithsonian has made available Drawing from Life: Caricatures and Cartoons from the American Art / Portrait Gallery Collection at http://www.sil.si.edu/ondisplay/caricatures/ . Choose the "explore the caricatures & cartoons" link on the left. There you can view an entire list of the cartoons (LONG list) or view the cartoons by subject (from adultrey to WWI.) The selection for Theodore Roosevelt had six cartoons. Cartoons are listed with a description, caption, source, and subjects. There is a link for a larger version of the cartoon/caricature, which seems to be an image of the entire page scan. Posted to Aesthetics-Art | TrackBack
