January 30, 2004Florida Unclaimed Property Database Is At Almost $1 BillionThe news that Florida's unclaimed property database has reached almost $1 billion in assets ($970 million, actually) is as good a reason as any to talk about it. Florida's unclaimed property database is available at http://up.dbf.state.fl.us/Isearch.cfm and is updated daily. You may search by first name, last name, middle initial, and city. A search for last name "Doe" found over 350 results. Results are listed in a title which shoes last name, first name, city, and account number (not all information is available for all listings.) Selecting the last name will give you some additional details including address (I guess this is the "last known" address, because if they knew the actual address the property wouldn't be unclaimed, right?) and the type of unclaimed property (though sometimes this is as ambiguous as 'refund'.) Other links on the front page include a link to a business search for unclaimed property, information for unclaimed property holders, codes related to unclaimed property in Florida, a short link list, and unclaimed property auction information.
