January 13, 2004Genealogy and Genetics Search EngineI've seen plenty of genealogy engines that let you search names, but this is the first public one I've seen that lets you search DNA results. It's called Ysearch and it's available at http://www.ysearch.org . This search engine allows two types of searches. There a Y-DNA search and a last name search. Searching for last name does not require registration. The name search lets you search for last name and region. I searched for Love and got five results. Results are presented in a table with userID, last name, ancestor's last name, origin, Haplogroup, who it was tested with, and a checkbox to compare the results. Clicking on a userID will If you want to search by DNA information, you'll need a userID. Registration of a userID is free and requires DNA information, last name, most distant ancestor, and contact information. You have the option of making your contact information completely private, available only when there are matches of a certain number of markers, and completely available.
