January 20, 2004Happy Google Hacks Week 2004 #2: Search SinkerIf you read Google Hacks you know that Google sorts results differently depending on an iteration of the same search word. You can try this for yourself. Search for baseball. Now search for baseball baseball. See? Search Sinker asks for two things: a query, and then a "sinker" -- a word that you want to emphasize as much as possible in the search. The script counts your query words, then fills up any remaining space in the query -- remember Google's query limit is ten words -- with your "sinker." Play around and see how much word-iteration changes Google's search results. Search Sinker does NOT require the Google API, so you don't need an API key. Yay! Sinker Search was written to celebrate Happy Google Hacks Week 2004. Check out the books in the O'Reilly Hacks Series: Google Hacks
