January 28, 2004Historic Sites in MichiganThey're probably covered in snow this time of year, but the state of Michigan has an online database of historic sites; it's available at http://www.michigan.gov/hal/0,1607,7-160-15481_19267_20363---,00.html . You may take a "photo tour" or you can use the search wizard. The search wizard will walk you through several search choices, including what's being searched (site name, location, historical significance, etc.) A search for "house" got over 1000 results, with a photograph and the name of the site. Click on the photograph and you'll get a larger picture of the site; click on the title and you'll get a variety of information including other names of the site, current and past use of the site, narrative description, statement of significance, and when it was designated a historical site.
