February 04, 2004A Resource Directory for East and Southeast AsiaProfessor Robert Eng has put together a rich subject index covering east and southeast Asia. You can access it at The front page of the site has an overview of what the site covers ("This annotated directory serves as a window on the rich Internet resources for the political units of East Asia (China, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, and Mongolia) and Southeast Asia (Brunei, Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam)" with several embedded links. But the actual menus are at the top of the page. There are menu options for the countries named as well as additional menus for Hot Topics, Asian-Americans, and Asia in general. Mouse over a menu item and you'll get a list of subdirectories. Korea, for example, had the Korean Peninsua, North Korea, and South Korea. Pick an item from the subdirectory and you'll get a list of relevant sites; hyperlinked title and descriptions. Descriptions varied a lot but were for the most part good. Check the bottom of the site listings for pulldown menus to take you to other parts of the site. Lots to see here but despite a really nice site map, this site desperately needs a search engine.
