February 17, 2004Feedster Creates Political FeedsRSS feed search engine Feedster has started a new section designed to aggregate news an opinions for the American presidential elections in November. You're invited to both submit your candidate-supportin' feed and view the aggreate "Feedpapers" at http://www.feedster.com/politics.php . The page has a list of current democratic candidates, along with two other parties (Green and Libertarian) and one for undecided. There's also a listing for George Bush and a listing for ABB (Anybody But Bush.) You can click on the checkbox, selecting one or more of the candidates that you support, and submit your Weblog to be aggregated. So why isn't there an "I support someone else" button? I would love to see the ability to enter your Weblog and specify your own category -- be it socialist, another party, or "I'm not supporting any of them because I want campaign reform." Whatever. Then new feedpapers could be added as a predetermined number of bloggers voted for a certain category. I mean, I thought part of the whole point of Weblogs is that they allow people to discuss topics not normally given great shrift by the mainstream media. Why restrict feedpapers to the most popular candidates and parties? But I digress (and possibly complain inappropriately -- nobody elected Scott Johnson keeper of the fourth estate when he wasn't lookin'.) Click on the word "Feedpaper" beside a candidate in whom you're interested. You'll get a list of recent posts about that candidate (and of course there's an RSS feed for this -- look for the orange XML button on the right), a list of blogs relevant to that candidate and the last time they were blogged, and the option to search either all of Feedster or just that source list.)
