Obituary Archive Allows You to Search by Name and Keyword

Genealogists, I've got good news and bad news. The good news is that this is an exceptionally-thorough online obituary archive, but you will have to pay for accessing the obituaries themselves.

ObitsArchives ( http://www.obitsarchive.com/ ) has some nice search options; name, date (and this can be a year, a month and year, a span of years, etc.) You can also search for keywords within the obituaries themselves, or use a map and checkboxes to narrow down a search by area.

Unfortunately the availability of the archives varies a lot. Archives are indexed from over 250 papers -- the Bellingham Herald (date range 9/4/1999 to present) to the New Orleans Times-Picayune (date range 1/14/1989). Search results include the the headline of the obituary, the date and the paper in which it appeared. You'll need an account to get any further information.

When you go to register you'll see you have three payment options. Single articles can be purchased for $3.50, a 30-day pass is $14.95, and a 90-day pass is $29.95.
