Digital Archive of Art From Boston College

Professor Jeffery Howe and a couple of contributors have made a wide variety of art available at The Digital Archive of Art, at http://www.bc.edu/bc_org/avp/cas/fnart/art/ . This site has over 20,000 scanned images divided into several categories, including painting, architecture, and sculpture.

Pick a category (like 19th century art) and you'll get a list of artists. I picked Vincent Van Gogh, and got thumbnails of his paintings divided into general paintings, self-portraits, and St. Remy. Click on the picture for a (slightly) larger picture.

The pictures are not annotated and the images are unfortunately not very large. I recommend it however for the breadth of material it covers -- the painting and sculpture directories contain
several artists, and the American and European architecture directories show a wide variety of buildings.
