March 09, 2004Library of Congress has Audio/Video Portal on TapGovernment Computer News is reporting ( http://gcn.com/23_5/tech-report/25133-1.html ) that the Library of Congress has plans for a portal pointing to audio and video collections worldwide. From the article: "The Moving Image Collections will serve as a metadatabase of ?what?s out there,? from old videotapes to digital motion pictures, said James DeRoest, assistant director of computing and communications at the University of Washington." There's already a Web site available, at http://gondolin.rutgers.edu/MIC/ ; it looks like it's been going on since last summer. There's information available about the directory database, interesting links called "Science Goes to the Movies Portal" and "Archives Portal" which unfortunately just lead to coming soon pages, and a variety of news. I can't wait to see this develop. Posted to Reference-Libraries-Collections | TrackBack
