Virginia Launches License Lookup for Health Professionals

The state of Virginia has just launched a license lookup for the state's 260,000 licensed, certified, and registered health care professionals. The new search is available from http://www.vipnet.org/dhp/cgi-bin/search_publicdb.cgi . You may search by license number, social security number (??!!) or by occupation, name, state, zip code, and status.

A search for the occupation Speech Pathologist produced over 2900 results, all on a single page. The table of results shows only the name, address, expiration date (I saw a lot of licenses that had expired in 2000) and whether or not that license had been subject to a proceeding. If it has, you'll have to contact the appropriate board; proceeding information for individual licenses doesn't appear to be available online.

There's more information if you click on a name. NOT available is the SS number, thank goodness, instead you get additional details including the license number, initial licensing date, and the
license status (expired, current active, current inactive, etc.)
