What Are the Most Popular Games?

Are you still playing Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom while everyone else is playing Everquest? Stuck on Alpha Centauri while everybody else is grooving to the latest sports game? I feel your pain. You need pointers to new games and what's hot. GameStats ( http://www.gamestats.com/ ) is the site you want to see. GameStats uses IGN.com's database of over 22,000 games to provide a huge list of information about games, including news, upcoming release stats, etc.

.. and, of course, what's hot. GameStats compiles activity statistics across its network of sites to determines what the It game of the moment is. At this writing the most popular game was Ninja Gaiden for XBox. There are also lists for most wanted, most owned, top rentals, etc. Beneath that most popular-o- meter is a list of the latest reviews (along with ratings so you know instantly if you want to bother or not) and a list of recently-released games. Small blue and red dots indicate whether a listed game is hot or cold, respectively. Games from all over the world are listed, so if you're wondering what the heck Diet Channel is, you've only to click on it to discover it's coming out in Japan. Drat. (You can only DDR to Paranoia remixes so many times.)

In addition to all this information-packed eye-candy GameStats also has a game search form right at the top of the page. You may search by keyword, platform (including all the oldies -- Intellivision's Astro Smash, anyone?) rating (teen mature, etc.) and GameStats rating.

An all-platform search for "Dance" found over 50 results broken out by platform (and including arcade games). Partial word matches (Sundance Kid) were also included. Listings include publisher, developer, GS rating (if any) and resources available for that particular game (board, previews, FAQs, cheats, etc.) If you're a registered user of the site (registration is free) you can add the game to your wish list, get e-mail alert information about the game, add it to your wish list, etc. Click on the name of the title for additional information about the game including current buzz, screen shots, reviews, and news.

NOTE: You don't want to use this site with Opera. I'm not absolutely sure, but when I was reviewing it with Opera it crashed a few times and I'm not exactly sure why. Proceed with caution.
