Database of Phishing Scams Available

Phishing scams are when you get e-mails from alleged legitimate institutions (banks, eBay, whatever) saying that your account has been compromised or you've been charged a zillion dollars or whatever. You then visit the site, which is actually fake, fill out your personal information, and you're outta luck.

Once fairly rare, phish scams have become organized and almost constant. To get a sense of how many different ones are going on, you can visit a database and information site about phishing at http://www.antiphishing.org/ .

There IS a lot of information available besides just the archive. There's phishing trend information, information on phishing meetings and news, resources (whitepapers, advice, corporate anti-fraud policies, etc.) and information about joining the anti-phishing working group.

The database is available at http://www.antiphishing.org/phishing_archive.htm . It's a list of phishing examples divided by date, company (company being faked, that is), and title of the phish. Click on the phish and you'll get additional information about the phish: summary data (scam target, e-mail format, goal, visible link, called link, etc.) e-mail (including screen shots), and some comments about the phish -- telltale signs that it is a phish, problems with the fake pages, etc. You are invited to submit your own received phishes; see http://www.antiphishing.org/report_phishing.htm for details.
