April 29, 2004Google and Yahoo Upgrade Image SearchesBoth Google and Yahoo have announced that they've added news images to their image search. At Google Images ( http://images.google.com ) you'll see news images in gray at the top of the usual image search results. You'll get a thumbnail image along with a news headline and a direct link to the related news story. There's also a link to a Google News search. Strangely a search for George Bush and "George Bush" found no image results, while Iraq found three results. Meanwhile, at Yahoo Image Search ( http://search.yahoo.com/images ) I couldn't get any news images to show up at all. Looks like those still pop up as a result of searching Yahoo News. Here's an image search for Iraq via Yahoo News: http://news.search.yahoo.com/search/news/?p=iraq&srch=1&ei=UTF-8&n=20&fl=0&c=news_photos&fr=sfp . Note the &c=news_photos URL element; I haven't figured out how to translate this to a regular news search. Posted to Search Engines-Google | TrackBack
