Ideas for an Open Search Engine Index

If you're interested in the idea of a community-built search engine, you may want to wander over and investigate the offerings at Open Index ( http://www.openindex.org/ ). This site is not a specific project for building an open search engine index, but more a gathering place for ideas and pointers to various information.

At the moment this site offers discussion forums (not very active), an overview of the Internet and indexes (how about sourcing some of these page estimates?) thoughts about defining and designing an ideal index, and some links. As I said, there isn't much here yet. But I hope this site stirs up some interest in the search community and maybe some responses from its leaders.
