April 26, 2004Library of Congress Updates Prints and Photographs Online CatalogApparently it's LOC day here at ResearchBuzz. Who knew? Anyway, the LOC has announced that their Prints and Photographs Online Catalog, at http://www.loc.gov/rr/print/catalog.html , now has almost 1 million images. New materials include 5,100 photographs from the National Child Labor Committee Collection, (photographs from 1908-1924) and more than 100 photos from the US News and World Report Magazine Photograph Collections (photographs from 1952-1983). To access these materials, visit the new site at http://lcweb2.loc.gov/pp/pphome.html . You'll have to agree to the LOC disclaimer. Once you do that you'll get a list of available collections. National Child Labor collection is #34, while the US News and World Report collection isn't on this list, but you can get the photographs available at http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/p?pp/ils:@field(CALL+@band(usn+job))::SortBy=CALL . The US News and World Report collection will show you the photographs in a series of thumbnail pages. The Child Labor collection is searchable by keyword. A search for "wages" found 17 photographs with captions, dates, and pointers to images. Posted to Reference-Libraries-Collections | TrackBack
