June 21, 2004Database Provides Information on 3,000 Restaurant ChainsSpeaking of really specialized databases. If you're looking for information on restaurant chains you might want to try RestaurantChains.net ( http://www.restaurantchains.net ), a pay-for-use database of over 3,000 restaurant chains ... .. or so I'm told. My search was restricted to the demo of 100 records, alas. Anyway, The site presents records in a one-per-page format, with a variety of information including whether or not it serves alcohol, square footage, type of cuisine served, average check, etc. You can search on several different variables alcohol, name, address, meal period, etc. A search for "pizza" in name found 15 results (this is in the 100-record demo, remember), which go back to the one-per-page layout. I got to thumb through 5 Buck Pizza, ABC Pizza, and now I'm getting hungry.. Once you've found the types of chains you're looking for, you have the option of generating an HTML report, or a comma-delimited report for labels. I could not get the comma-delimited report to function, which may be because it's a demo. Access to the database is $795 for online searchable format, $375 for an Adobe PDF listing that's e-mailed to you three times a year, or $825 for CD-ROM. Combination packages are available.
