Directory of Independent Record Stores Searchable by State

When I first saw this directory of independent record stores, I thought "Cool!" Then I saw down at the bottom of the page that it was "© 2004 Sony Music Entertainment Inc." and thought, "H'm?" But it's still a handy directory. The Independent Record Store Directory's store locator is available at http://www.the-ird.com/store.html .

Unfortunately the only searching you can do is by state; I see no option to search by zip code or zip code radius. If I live in Knoxville, Tennessee, I'm not sure I care about independent record stores in Memphis. Anyway, choose your state (I tried Arizona) and you'll get a list of the record stores in that state: name (and sometimes number if they're part of a chain), location, and genre (though all the genres I looked at were alternative.)

Click on the name of the store and you'll get additional information including phone, fax, e-mail, Web site, directions (if any) and store description (if any). All the store descriptions I saw were thorough without being "hypey" and provided plenty of information about what's available at the described store.
