June 03, 2004The Old Car Manual ProjectIf you've got a rustbucket (or a very nice old car) you'll want to explore The Old Car Manual Project at http://www.tocmp.com/ , a collection of manuals, brochures, and even some advertisements for old cars. ("Old" in this case seems to mean up through the 70s.) There's plenty to see on the front page but the site is also divided up via a text menu below the site's logo. Manuals are divided by type (particular parts, general assembly, owner's manuals, wiring diagrams, etc.) The brochure index is laid out in a table, divided by make and year (man, look at that 1911 Buick.) The pictures section is a group of pictures and ads broken out by make (G to K are apparently missing, and are M&N, R, and T to Z.) You would think all this stuff would be in PDF format, but it's not. It looks like most of it is in HTML format, with pages laid out one page/JPG file at a time. There are no transcriptions available, but I didn't see any brochures that weren't readable. The scans I saw were good. This site is a huge labor of love. I couldn't believe all the stuff they had here. Visit, browse. Posted to Business-Transportation-Auto | TrackBack
