July 14, 2004Underwriters Laboratories Launches UL Alarm FinderUnderwriters Laboratory (they're the people who test product compliance -- remember that UL on electrical items?) has released an online directory of UL-listed fire and security alarm companies. It's called UL Alarm Finder, it's searchable by zip code, and it's available at http://www.ulalarmfinder.com . I couldn't get the search function to work in anything but Internet Explorer. There are actually three components to the search: by zip code (and mile radius to zip code), type of system (residence, bank, business, or government), and type of system (fire alarm or security system.) Depending on what you're searching for you may get another search question as well. I searched for business security systems within 5 miles of 10016. After you specify what type of system you're looking for, you may get another question about monitoring. I got a list of 14 results. The results list included name and address of the company selling the systems, contact name and phone number (sometimes the contact was just "Sales Department") the distance from the specified zip code, and sometimes a logo. While there was an option to print the search results there was not a link to more detailed information. Posted to Science-Electronics | TrackBack
