TV Guide Offers Movie and Sports Guide

To keep up with my beloved Cubbies I usually use tv.yahoo.com, but sometimes I find that the site doesn't respond, or it only has a day's worth of sports listings. Because of that I was glad to see that TV Guide Online is now offering databases with guides to movies and sports, but unfortunately this offering has a few quirks of its own. You can get to it at http://www.tvguide.com .

You'll have to register to use the site. Once you've registered (name, address, DOB), you'll get to view TV listings. When you're looking at the TV listings, look on the menu bar for the offerings of Sports and Movies, where you'll find the Big Sports Guide and the Big Movies Guide.

The Big Sports Guide is a Flash app. It presents in a box which shows two weeks, one day per tab. Within a tab you may sort by time, program name, network, or sport. Unfortunately there does not appear to be any way to eliminate channels on the fly -- some of the subscriptions like NBA PPV and other sports-oriented premium offerings can really clutter up this listing.

The Big Movies Guide is also Flash, but doesn't attempt to sort movies out by genre (a pretty thankless task.) Instead you may list movies by year, TV Guide Rating, channel, and air time. Here's where I wish you could have sorted by two things -- it'd be interesting to know who has the most 1-star rated movies in their lineup.
