Yahoo's Got Its Own Search Blog

'Tip to Jeremy Z. for pointing out the New Yahoo Search Blog.

Confidential to Yahoo: Do you realize what a gem you have in Jeremy and his communication with the Internet search peanut gallery? There have been some times where he has helped me more than corporate PR. Give him a cookie or a Hoho or something.

Back to the Weblog: They're using Movable Type! They have an RSS feed! THEY LINKED TO RESEARCHBUZZ!

>swoon<

They also have this thing at the top of the page that allows you to search the Web or their blog. Which is amusing because it apparently hasn't been indexed yet. But bear with me for a moment while I get completely nerdy: search for "six" and then look at the URL. It'll look like this:

http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=six&vs=ysearchblog.com

Notice that the &vs= switch is the one doing the site search. Now, change the ysearchblog.com to Google.com:

http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=six&vs=google.com

You'll get at this writing 1,480 results. Now, start a new search and search for

six site:google.com

Not only will get about ten more results for the second search, but you'll get the results in a different order. So the &vs switch in the URL is not the same as the site: syntax.

What is that switch?
