September 02, 2004All Your Avibase Are Belong To UsAre All Your Base jokes passe? Really? Drat; I do enjoy them. If you like birds you'll enjoy AviBase at http://www.bsc-eoc.org/avibase/avibase.jsp , information on 10,000 species and over 20,000 subspecies of birds. There's a simple search form at the top of the page. I searched for Hummingbird, and got a PILE of results, starting with Abeille's Hummingbird and going all the way to Yucatán Hummingbird. There was no result count but that's a lot of hummingbirds. I looked at the Volcano Hummingbird. I got a page of information on the scientific classification and status of the bird, as well as the bird's name in other languages (Ruusukurkkukolibri!) At the top of the pages are links which provide a map of information as well as external pointers to Google search results and Google image searches. Finally there's a pointer to ITIS search results. In addition to the bird listings this site also has a list of birding-related Websites and a set of bird checklists for the world. Extensive! Posted to Science-Ornithology | TrackBack
