September 16, 2004Firefox Goes to 1.0Mozilla's Firefox browser has gone to a 1.0 release and is now available for download at http://www.mozilla.org/ . I've been sticking to the regular Mozilla thus far, but I decided to download and install the new Firefox. Installation went okay though I was sorry that there was apparently no import option for Opera bookmarks. Once installed I visited a few Web sites. I must say Firefox is quite zippy; pages loaded quickly, with the text displaying and the images filing in. I played a couple of games of WEBoggle -- purely in the interest of research, you understand -- and accessed a couple of things that don't go in Opera but go fine in Mozilla. They went fine in Firefox as well. I'm going to have to do a lot of working with Firefox to see what I think, but for the short term it's going to replace Mozilla for me. I like the Google search box. I like the RSS feed subscription in the sidebar. I like the fact that people are developing toolbars for Firefox. Watch this space for more mentions.
