New York Times Launches Photo Archives

The New York Times has launched a photo archives at http://www.nytimes.com/nytstore/photos/index.html . And while it's really set up as a store, it's still a lot of fun to just browse.

The photo archives are searchable by keyword or browsable by category; categories include sports, politics, personalities, and international. A keyword search for president found 46 results (be sure to narrow your search to just photographs using the link on the left part of the nav). Among the subjects in the results were Kennedy, Roosevelt, and then-VP Nixon pulling up his socks.

Information about each photo includes year it was taken, title, and a few words of annotation. There is a link to a larger version of the photo, but it's not that much larger. You do have option to buy copies of the photograph.. but paying $195 for an 11 x 14 of Nixon and his presidential shin's a little outside my budget.
