November 05, 2004HomeTownLocator Community ProfilesA while ago I covered the HomeTown Gazetteer ( http://www.researchbuzz.org/archives/001287.shtml ). That site allowed you to get location information based on place search or zip code search. Now the same folks have released HomeTownLocator Community Profiles at http://www.HomeTownLocator.com . Information here includes census data, cultural information, and pointers to a variety of resources. I did a search for 31733 and discovered that it's the zip code for Chula, Georgia. The initial search results provide information on county, area code, zip code, weather, and a map. There's also a pointer to census data. If you click on the name of the town, you'll get a huge pile of links, including pointers to aerial photographs, census data, attractions and parks, community, jobs, environmental information, and news and media. The list ends with a few local search boxes. I woulda liked to see a couple more things. Google Local search box is included here but Yahoo Local search box isn't. And why not a pointer to Topix news, since it breaks out its news by zip code? Already a good collection of pointers here; a few more would make it just great.
