November 09, 2004World War I Records for British Soldiers w/ Service Medals Now AvailableThe National Archives of the United Kingdom has released a new Web site that contains information on over five million men and women of the British Army and Royal Flying Corps who won medals during World War I. It's available at http://www.documentsonline.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ -- look in the WW1 Campaign Medals section. The search form for the medals has a date range, but the information about the database notes that there's really no reason to restrict your search by date. In addition to name you can also search by corps or by keyword. A search for Wodehouse found 38 results. Information on the search results listed includes the person's name, corps, rank, date (all the ones I saw were 1914-1920, so there really isn't any reason to do a date search) catalog reference number, and a details link. The details page provides a little bit of additional archival information, but to purchase an image of the medal card you'll need to pay 3.50 pounds. Posted to History-Wars and Conflicts | TrackBack
