December 01, 2004Do You Have Any.... Music? No? Go Fish.If you're more interested in searching for media than text, try the new search engine GoFish, which claims to search 12 million media files. Media in this case includes ring tones, audio, video, and video games (video games?) It's available at http://www.gofish.com/ . Stinging as I was still at the fact that MSN search doesn't recognize Professor Longhair, I searched for him. You may limit your search to certain types of content but in this case I went ahead and searched for everything. A search for "Professor Longhair" found 1 artist and 20 songs. Some of the songs were actually songs that contained the phrase "Professor Longhair" while some of the songs looked like they were pulled from compilations that had inserted names into the song titles -- a bit of a boo-boo there. The songs also listed what album they were from and gave a link to download the song. The link to download the song provided me with links to merchants who sell the song online -- in the case of the ones I looked at, the merchants were Napster, iTunes, and Rhapsody. The artist match gave me a list of albums by Professor Longhair as well as a list of songs by him. In both cases there were pointers to where the songs could be downloaded. There were some instances where I wouldn't want to search -- notably in the case of ringtones. Search results do have to their left that have a list of categories by which you can browse.
